From the bean to the bar

Federation Artisan Chocolate has been an iconic Tasmanian chocolate brand for over 30 years. When Maurice and Helen Curtis bought the business in 2014, they decided they wanted to become more involved in their chocolates entire making process right through from the growing of the cacao beans to the making of their bars.

Since then they have worked tirelessly to hand select ethical and sustainable cacao growers and increase the stone ground full bean content of their chocolate. They are very proud of the progress they have made in developing their chocolate working out of the Taranna chocolate making facilities and direct to consumer shop on Tasmanian’s Tasman Peninsula, 1 hours drive from Hobart just before Port Arthur.

In 2018, Maurice and Helen realised that if they were to reach their ultimate goal of being able to produce a full bean chocolate across their whole range, they needed to expand their workshop area. They also wanted to be able to share their wonderful chocolate making philosophy with more people by providing meet the maker and chocolate making masterclass experiences. So, in April 2019 they successfully opened a Hobart City CBD Artisan chocolate factory, chocolate shop and café.

No palm oil is used in any of their milk and dark chocolate and they are one of a dozen chocolate makers in the world that use Australian grown cacao beans, the sole chocolate maker in Tasmania.

Federation Artisan Chocolate is proudly Tasmanian owned and operated and all their chocolate is handmade in Tasmania, Australia.
